Bitcoin Exchange Shapeshift is offline, and the experts argue if they got hacked or if they received a letter to comply with bitlicense – or both.
It was April 7th users was warned about a security-breach, Official Shapeshift wrote the following statement today on reddit:
Our CEO, Erik Voohees announced on our subreddit that our systems were compromised on April 7th CLICK HERE TO READ. The team continues to undergo a active forensic investigation of its server infrastructure to plug all holes before fully relaunching the site. Once the investigation is complete ShapeShift does plan to release a post-mortem of its finding to the community.
But something else is changing as well, suddenly Shapeshift has blocked US Citizens from using their platform

Nobody from Shapeshift has commented on the last statement, but rumours are thriving in the troll sphere that they are under pressure from US Government SEC
When we visited Shapeshift, all we found was this frontpage saying they are down:
We are upgrading infrastructure, we will likely be down for a few days. Apologies for the downtime, we’re working hard to bring the fox back bigger and better.
